#62 – Ideomancer Says No To Ayla Athena
02.04.2009I quit the computer around seven last night and spent my evening watching reruns of House instead because… well… that guy’s fucking funny. But had I kept it on for an extra hour and a half, I would have seen that Ideomancer had sent me a rejection for good ‘ole Ayla Athena.
Their rejection was even very nice, witness:
Your writing is clear and easy to read. However, the plot just didn’t
hold my interest. I kept flashing back to old WWII movies I’ve seen
and that pulled me out of the story each time. The ending also was
fairly predictable. I knew someone would [REDACTED] soon as the son was mentioned.
It makes complete sense. Ayla Athena was written to be a kind of sci-fi Tokyo Rose story, so the parallels should have been obvious. Basically, I was just trying to show what happens when people get caught in the middle and do what they can to survive.
Anyway… this marks my third rejection for the year. Number sixty-two for this project as a whole and the ninth for Ayla Athena.
I feel kind of sad. I only have three more places on the list for this piece. After that, I run into the same problem I have with Drug Enforcement. What do I do with it?
Bah… I don’t know.
This also marks my fifth rejection from Ideomancer, a fine internet publication that everyone should check out if they haven’t already. They release their content both on their site and in a nicely formatted PDF–the format that I prefer. They also have one hell of an editorial staff.
So… with three rejections for the year, I’m still only averaging four days per rejection. Of course, I still have four submissions still out, a few of which will probably begin trickling in any day now. So stay tuned. You’ll always read about them here first.
… Uh… Because no one else gives a shit… heh heh…
Have a good week, kids. Remember… it’s hump day.
